Some great info! I have a number of questions for you that you may not want to answer on-line. If so, you can send me your responses to my personal e-mail at four.paws @ sympatico.ca
1) What is the size/configuration of your solar array? Did you opt for any particular brand or did you have much of a choice in the matter?
2) Did you import the panels into Belize or did you get them locally. I know I've spoken with a gentleman at BSCL in Belmopan who handles a variety of alternative energy devices (wind, solar, etc.)
3) If you imported them did you get hit with import duties and did you have any issues with BEL?
4) Where did you get your solar water heater? Are you using a closed loop or open loop system?
5) What wind turbines are you using and have you had any "bird kills"?
6) Did you install the system yourself or did you have someone do it for you?
7) What company did you get to insure your panels for hurricane damage?
What was the damage as a result of the lightning strike?9) Oh yes, is your house concrete, wood, on piers, etc.?
As an aside, when we were in Belize in December we rented a two bedroom guesthouse for two weeks. This had a fridge, six ceiling fans, two TV's, three air conditioners (but we didn't run them) various lights, etc. Our usage for three people was 58 Kwh per week average, not too far off your own experience!
Cheers,
Doug
