Freetricity.com

Freetricity.com
Since I am interested in alternative energy sources, I looked into freetricity.com. I called them and the salesman I spoke to said that there were 70,000 units out there and that the only returns they have had are 'upgrades because they saw how good the unit worked. He said that he himself has 3 units running and as a result has reduced his $380 electric bill by 90%(California). He also said that there was a switch that you could have an electrician install (extra $400) so that your house will use the ed2 power when available and revert to the original source when it's not available. When I asked why the link to the BBB on his website did not work, he said that he wasn't sure what happened, but he gave me the info so I could lookup the info for myself. I did exactly that and found some negative info out there (was this the reason why the link was removed). I then send the below email and have not had any response since. I googled freetricity.com to see what honest feedback was out there (surely if it was a great product, people would write about it), but I am disappointed to say I ended up here instead. When I asked the salesman why there were no  testimonials with electric bill proof, he said that 'testimonials are all fake'. I want to believe that the product works, but my interaction and reading the other thread leave me with a negative feeling. Is it just a case of freetricity.com just not being customer-service saavy or are they acting that way because the product doesnt work. The recommendation made by them to the other guy 'to buy and try' on the other thread made no sense to me. Why should be buy and try when there is the potential to be 'out' the money if it doesnt work. A much better response would have been for him to give it to an independent source like consumer reports or something (or someone from this site)

That is what should be done to see if this is in fact a diamond in the rough.

Hello, I have some additional questions:

-I looked up your company on BBB.org as your recommended. Please elaborate on why the 3 complaints were filed under 'Agreeing to perform according to their contract'. What was the specific issue there? Would you mind emailing me a copy of the actual contract terms so I could see it before I buy? Also, the other complaint about 'Refuse to adjust, relying on terms of agreement', what was the situation there?

-In regards to how the product performs, is there a possibility of surges damaging equipment? What guaranteed protection do you provide if this should happen?

-What are some things I should know about before buying your product in terms of what I should expect? What are the drawbacks to its functioning? I know you said one was that if there is not enough electricity being generated that I would have to revert back to the old power source. Is there a way to position the unit so that this does not happen?

- What are the stipulations of your guarantee?

- Is there any benefit to buying more than 1 unit?

I just want to be sure of what I am getting into because I bought the XPower and it does not work for me ($500 down the drain). What did work is eliminating the use of my dryer and getting all CFL bulbs.

If you purchased an Xpower and that did not work for you then the E2D will be worse. The Xpower is a 1500 watt modified sine wave inverter, and the E2D from freetricity is the same with options of 300, 500, or 1200 watts. The only question is whether the rest of the system has the capability of recharging the battery, and I guess you have already seen my views on that.

The BBB report is really not all that bad.
http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=100038657

My only concern is that their fax number is in Arizona (501 area code), and their physical address at 40378 Vista Road in Hemet appears to be the home address for someone named Eddie G Rebai. Kind of makes you wonder how Frank Jennings and Carl Vetts managed to install 70,000 systems without a physical presence somewhere.

Another small concern is that the BBB states "We know of no licensing or registration requirement for companies engaged in this company's stated type of business." which kind of lets them fly under the radar if you like.

Quick perusal of the site freetricity.com - it looks too good to be true, and too cheap. Bargains in this business often are not bargains. I would be very cautious with this stuff. Look around this site for much more info (I am not a rep for the alternative energy store, btw, and there is lots of info out there...try home power magazine at homepower.com for starters)

In January Freetricity will be hosting the first ever Small Wind Turbine Challenge.

It will be held at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula California.

CNN has been contacted and will be covering along with several other media outlets.

A $25,000 payout will be awarded to those with the highest outputs at eight, twelve, sixteen and twenty miles per hour!

Invitations will be sent to all manufacturers but those companies and/or individuals who rep these products are welcome as well.

A controlled environment to test all small wind generators is exactly what this industry needs.

More details will be available through our website www.freetricity.com next month.

Hope to see you all there ... especially you John (better bring your chap stick)!
