Spring check valves verses swing check valves in solar hot water systems
When installing a solar hot water system, especially with a large storage tank, consider using a swing check valve instead if a spring check valve. With a swing check valve the system flow will be greater thus decreasing the differential temperature across the heat exchanger. You will notice that the storage tank temperature will rise faster and will peak at a higher temperature. I replaced the spring check valve that came with my system to a swing check valve. I was able to lower the differential temperature across my heat exchanger and increase the tank temperature another ~10 degrees to 160F... Three hundred gallons of water at 160F.

Just make sure you are not fighting gravity with the swing check valve,  either install it horizontally or vertically pointing up so that gravity swings it closed, not open.
